Karen has been mentoring and empowering young and seasoned women since her very first job as a teenager with a battered women’s shelter. Later she became part of the pioneering staff that developed the Teen Advocacy Program in which she traveled to local high schools speaking to students about domestic violence in teen relationships. Over the years Karen has amassed many “little sisters” of young women who have looked to her for advice, guidance, and a positive role model of how a lady should present and conduct herself.
Staying committed to grass roots efforts in the community, Karen Kennedy serves as the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Black Coalition on AIDS in San Francisco.
Karen continues to volunteer time, service, and financial support to local non-profit organizations and charities who serve her local communities.
On a personal note…
Karen is a natural leader and has been speaking since grade school. She was Student Council Vice President in 5th grade and President in 6th grade. She represented her primary school and performed in the MLK Oratorical Contest. She was voted senior class president by her peers after just one impromptu speech. In college, she won the 1st Annual Cesar Chavez Essay competition and presented her essay on police racial profiling to the student body.
A long time competitive runner and swimmer, Karen now enjoys participating in half marathons and open water swim races. Her dad, who was a lifeguard and began teaching her to swim as a baby says, “She learned to swim and walk at the same time.”
Karen lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and loves spending time with her 3 daughters. By the way, please and thanks for showing love to the motorcyclists on the road and sharing the lane… it might be Karen riding past on her Yamaha V-Star Classic 1100.
